This principle shapes the product in concrete ways:
- Every concept image carries a visible watermark: "AI CONCEPT — NOT FINAL TATTOO ART" with the project ID.
- Nothing can be approved or unlocked at full resolution unless the invited artist approves it. Administrators cannot do this on an artist's behalf.
- The readiness checklist gives artists explainable prompts, never a score, and never says a design is "tattooable".
- We do not offer production stencils, vector exports, style cloning or training on any artist's work. That is deliberate.
- Requests that name living artists are treated as neutral descriptions, so the artist you invite is never asked to imitate a peer. Artists can also list styles they do not work in, and generation respects that.
2. What we will not generate
You may not request, upload or attempt to obtain concepts involving any of the following:

| Real people's likeness | Portraits or recognisable features of a real person — celebrity or private individual — without that person's clear permission. Memorial portraits of a family member should be discussed directly with your artist. |
| Gang insignia | Signs, numbers, script or imagery used to signal gang membership. |
| Copies of existing tattoos | "Exactly this tattoo", "replica of @someone's piece", or a reference photo uploaded with the intent of reproducing it. |
| Living-artist imitation | "In the style of" a named living tattoo artist. See the next section for how we handle this. |
The list is not exhaustive. We also refuse anything illegal where you or we are located, and we may decline any request that a reasonable tattoo artist would decline.
3. What we rewrite instead of blocking
Two kinds of request are common, usually well-intentioned, and still not something we will do literally. Rather than fail the whole brief, our checks are designed to neutralise the offending phrase and carry on. We never instruct the model to imitate a named person.
- Named living artists. “Like Kat Von D” becomes “a professional tattoo artist”. Describe the qualities you like instead: line weight, shading, composition, mood.
- Copy requests. “Copy this”, “same as @handle’s design” or “replicate” are rewritten to “inspired by”. Your uploaded references are shown to your artist as inspiration, never as something to trace.
The best way to avoid a rewrite is not to need one: name the qualities, not the person. Your artist will decline to copy a peer’s work regardless of what the concept looks like.
4. Why these rules exist
- Permanence. A hateful or infringing image on paper is a problem; on skin it is a permanent one. We would rather refuse early than let a bad idea gather momentum.
- Artists’ rights and livelihoods. Tattoo artists build a recognisable style over years. Generating “in their style” or copying their pieces takes that without asking, and many artists refuse to tattoo copied work anyway.
- Copyright and trademark. Characters, logos and existing artwork belong to someone. Neither we nor your artist can license them for you.
- Consent. Another person’s face, body or name on your skin needs their agreement, not just yours.
- Safety. Gang and extremist marks can put the wearer and the artist at real risk.
5. How the checks work
We check brief text before any generation request is made. The check runs on the combined text of your brief fields and does three things, in this order:
- Blocks the request if it matches known hate-symbol or gang-related terms. You are asked to revise the brief.
- Neutralises named living artists and explicit copy requests instead of blocking the whole brief.
- Blocks the request if it names a protected character or franchise, with a suggestion to describe the mood, symbols or shapes you like instead.
These automated checks are pattern-based and deliberately conservative; they will miss some things and occasionally flag an innocent phrase. They are a first line, not the last one. The artist who reviews your project is the real safeguard, and anyone in a project can report content to us. Uploaded images are not automatically scanned, which is one reason body photos and references are only ever visible to project members.
When a real image model is used, the model provider applies its own safety filters as well. If a concept fails to generate for that reason we fall back to our built-in renderer or ask you to revise.
6. Uploads: references and body photos
- Reference images (up to 8) are for mood, line weight and composition. Uploading someone else's tattoo as "copy this" is a copy request and will be treated as one.
- Body photos (up to 3) must be of you, or of an adult who has agreed to be photographed for this purpose. Photos of anyone under 18 are prohibited.
- By uploading you confirm you own the image or have permission to use it.
- Body photos are private, are never sent to AI providers, are never used for training or marketing, and can be deleted at any time. See the Privacy Policy for details.
- Accepted formats are JPEG, PNG and WebP, up to 8 MB per file (12 MB for artist uploads).
7. Watermarks and downloads
Watermarks are applied on the server when an image is served, not by page styling, so they cannot be removed by editing the page. Each one reads “AI CONCEPT — NOT FINAL TATTOO ART” and includes a short project ID that lets us trace a leaked image back to its project.
Full-resolution originals are refused by the server unless the artist has approved that direction and explicitly unlocked download. Removing or cropping out a watermark, or presenting a concept as finished art, breaks our Terms of Service.
8. How to report a problem
If you see a concept, upload or comment that breaks this policy — or you believe a generated image copies your own work — email (contact address not published yet) with:
- The project ID (shown in the watermark and in the project URL) or a screenshot.
- What the problem is: hateful content, copied work, someone's likeness, a minor, or something else.
- If you are the rights holder or the person depicted, a short statement to that effect.
We review reports promptly. Depending on what we find we may remove content, pause generation for the project, close the project, or notify the authorities. We will tell the reporter what action we took where we can do so without exposing someone else’s data.
9. When generation is paused
We can pause concept generation for a single project or for the whole service. You will see the message “Generation is temporarily paused. Please try again later.” Reasons include:
- A report or an automated flag on the project that needs a human look.
- Unusual volume or cost from one project or across the service.
- Problems with the image-model provider, or a safety issue we are investigating.
Pausing generation does not delete anything and does not stop the artist workflow. Existing concepts, comments and quotes remain available.
10. Changes and contact
We will tighten this policy as we learn from the pilot and as the law develops; the date at the top shows the current version. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email to account holders.
